Tourism

There are many examples of local or sectoral tourism businesses collaborating to promote their destination or offering.

Co-operative business models are ideally suited to tourism, where visitor attractions, accommodation providers and tour operators share a common interest in maximising the tourism potential of their communities.

Examples include the Merchant City Tourism and Marketing Co-operative, a co-operative of local visitor attractions and businesses aiming to to promote the Merchant City in Glasgow.

Co-operatives are also formed to promote special interest areas such as adventure travel and ecotourism.

These models allow tourist operators to benefit from pooled resources and co-operative marketing.

Our information sheet has more examples of opportunities that co-operative models can bring tourism companies.
